Following a DUI offense, a driver will often have a hard time getting or keeping insurance.  If the insurance company keeps the driver insured, then the premiums will generally increase substantially.  Usually the bigger insurance companies will just cancel the insurance because they fell the driver is high-risk and therefore not a good client for their business.  Often times it is some of the smaller insurance companies that will keep the driver insured while raising the DUI auto insurance quotes.  Since the license of a driver arrested for driving under the influence will likely be revoked, it is necessary to provide the department of motor vehicles with a proof of insurance certificate prior to getting it back.
