Are you one of the hundreds of thousands of people today finding yourself unemployed? Unemployment is quickly becoming a statistical phenomenon as companies try do downsize in order to stay afloat and small business are being forced to close up shop in order to break even without going under. That is the sad reality of the economy of today. Fortunately, the good news is that the situation can’t get much worse because once you hit bottom, the only way left to go is up. Our nation is pretty close to hitting rock bottom, but until the country is able to figure out a way to start rebuilding companies and boost the economy, those who are not currently employed can seek unemployment benefits.

I work in the HR department for a small company and recently the company president asked me to advertise for a database administrator. Not having hired an IT person before I asked him what the database administrator roles would be and he told me, “you figure it out.” When I asked about the salary for the position, he just said, not too much, find out the national average and low ball it. After doing some research I found out that database administrator’s were in high demand, however I did as I was told and posted the position. We were both disgusted when not a single qualified candidate did not apply (me because I knew it didn’t pay enough and him because he thought they were being too picky).

I was only looking for a way to earn money while I was at home for the first few years with our children and I had every intention of going back in the office after my kids started attending school. I have now discovered that I can make a great living working from home and maybe I will do that even when the kids do not need me during the day. I have become a licensed Medical Transcriptionist in just a few short months and the money I am earning is very comparable with what I was earning before. I highly recommend it to any one who needs to work from home.

For those looking to pursue a dental assistant career the news is good as the employment opportunities are expected to increase sharply over the coming years. In fact the job opportunities for dental assistants are expected to grow at a significantly faster pace than what is the average for all the other occupations. The US Bureau of Labor Statistics has identified a dental assistant career to be the third fastest growing occupation of those occupations that do not require a degree.

Years of school, years of residency, and no job. Sigh. Now I have to dig around looking for surgery recruiting.
I hope I can keep with my specialty, but I’m beginning to realize that Orthopedic Surgeon Job are scarce.
The medical placement agencies just aren’t finding me the type of surgery position I want. I’m at a loss as to what to do next.
