What Does a Notary Public Do?
January 16th, 2009 . by adminIf you’re like most people, you’ve had to seek out a notary public at one time or another. Many formal or legal documents will require the witness and stamp of a notary public to be valid. A notary request some form of identification, witnesses your signature, and can later testify to your identity if necessary in a court of law. A notary public is a person authorized by the Secretary of State to witness documents being signed, collect sworn statements, and give oaths. Many people mistakenly think that notary publics are public employees or have some type of legal training, but most are simply private citizens who have applied to be notary publics.
